Florida Electrical Contractor Continuing Education Requirements

Listed below is a summary of Florida State requirements:

Hours Required: (14) Hours Biennially
Renewal Deadline: August 31st (Even Years)
Max Online Hours Allowed: (14) Hours
Course Approval: The Florida Electrical Contractors Licensing Board pre-approves providers of continuing education courses.

Course Content: Fourteen hours of Continuing Education Must include:
     (1) Hour of Workplace Safety
     (1) Hour of Business Practices
     (1) Hour of Workers' Compensation
     (1) Hour of Advanced 2007 Florida Building Code
     (7) Hours of Board Approved Technical Subjects
     (3) Hours of General Credits which may be any class approved by the board

Contractors who are engaged in alarm system contracting must take (2) hour false alarm prevention course as part of their continuing education. NOTE: We do not offer this (2) hour course.
Reporting: On-Line-Classes electronically reports continuing education credit for you to the Electrical Contractor Licensing Board at the completion of each class automatically.

Business Information:
The Electrical Contractors Licensing Board licenses individuals as contractors to perform electrical and alarm work pursuant to Chapter 489 Part II, Florida Statutes. In order to do business as a corporation, partnership, limited liability company or any business entity other than a sole proprietorship, the contractor must be approved to qualify that business entity. The name of the approved business entity will appear on the contractors individual license. If the contractor is operating as an individual without a business name, the word INDIVIDUAL will appear on the contractors license.

Each electrical or alarm business must be qualified by a properly licensed individual contractor in order to engage in construction activities in Florida.

Enforcement: Florida Division of Regulation:
The Division of Regulation is the enforcement authority for the Florida professional boards and programs. It monitors those professions and related businesses to ensure that the laws, rules and standards set by the Legislature and professional boards are followed. This is accomplished by proactively monitoring the professionals and related businesses; investigating complaints of wrongdoing; utilizing compliance mechanisms such as notices of noncompliance and citations; and the performance of statutorily mandated inspections.

The division is divided into five program areas and operate 8 regional offices and 2 satellite offices. The five program areas are:
